Our 3 Cents - Royal Rumble 2021

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

Welcome back to another edition of Our 3 Cents where myself, Jesse, and Lonnie give you our predictions on what's going to go down. The road to WrestleMania begins with the Royal Rumble. Without further to do....

John: 58-22-1 (72%)

Jesse: 55-25-1 (68%)

Lonnie: 53-27-1 (65%)

Let's take a look at the card:

WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Match

Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler vs. Charlotte Flair & Asuka (champs; Asuka is also WWE Raw Women's Champion)

Jesse: Dear lord what does it take for Nia to disappear? Another botch on Monday, and she is still somehow around. I get that she could be a decent person backstage, but if you suck at your job you need to go. Now onto the tag champs, why are they dragging out them stabbing each other in the back for so long? Just get it over so they can have their match and Charlotte can add another title to her reign. Charlotte and Asuka win.

W: Charlotte Flair & Asuka

Lonnie: I am no Nia fan at all, but I have to say at least her, and Shayna are actually a tag team. For the past month Asuka has been fighting Alexa and Charlotte is feuding with Ric. From the standpoint of freeing Asuka and Charlotte from the belts before WrestleMania and Nia & Shayna actually being a team, I think we will have new champs here. Hopefully this match isn’t too long.

W: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

John: I must say I'm disappointed with the women's tag team division. Not because it's bad but because there so much more they could be doing. There's plenty of talent who could legitimately challenge (Riott Squad, The Way, Kai/Gonzalez). Just look at this match, the champs aren't even tagging together regularly on Raw. Charlotte is dealing with Ric and Lacey while Asuka has bigger problems with Alexa Bliss. I'm not one to call Nia and Shayna much of a team but they're more a team than Asuka and Charlotte right now. I think Nia and Shayna get the titles back thanks to a Lacey and Ric distraction. This way Asuka and Charlotte can be solo. At the end of the day, they only got the titles so Charlotte could check that box upon her return.

W: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

WWE Smackdown Women's Championship Match

Carmella vs. Sasha Banks (champ)

Jesse: I am not going to lie; Carmella has really been impressing me since her comeback. Sasha hasn’t really bloomed yet as champ, but her time is coming after this feud. Sasha wins a surprisingly decent match.

W: Sasha Banks

Lonnie: I don’t think Carmella is bad by any means, but does WWE want her being the women’s champion heading into Mania or do they want one of their most popular superstars holding the championship? Carmella has been a nice way to get Sasha away from Bayley and keep things fresh, but her time is over. Sasha should win convincingly here.

W: Sasha Banks

John: I like this feud and I feel like Carmella has stepped up her game. However, I still don't buy Carmella being on Banks' level and I don't think Carmella is the one to take the championship into WrestleMania. I was pleasantly surprised by their match at TLC and I hope we get another good outing here. Banks should retain and move onto her WrestleMania feud.

W: Sasha Banks

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Universal Championship

Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns (champ)

Jesse: Thankfully this isn’t Roman vs Pearce since that would have been a snooze fest. Roman and KO do have really good chemistry in the ring, and with it being a last man standing match KO will do something crazy. I still don’t see Roman losing the title anytime soon though.

W: Roman Reigns

Lonnie: In my dreams this could be as good as Mankind and The Rock in their Rumble last man standing match. These guys have had some good matches and I expect this one will be as well. With the last man standing rules Jey can legally get involved and I am sure he will. But in the end, we all know this is ending with Roman as champ so he can head into his WrestleMania feud.

W: Roman Reigns

John: This feud has been great and I love everything Roman Reigns is doing right now. It's been a long time coming but everything he does is gold now. Owens is the perfect person to match up with him as they're opposites in everyway right now. It just clicks. I think Owens deserves another run with the title but it's just not the right time. This could be a brutal match but when the dust settles, the Tribal Chief is taking the gold to Mania.

W: Roman Reigns

WWE Championship Match

Goldberg vs. Drew McIntyre (champ)

Jesse: No just no. I enjoyed Goldberg when I was a kid watching WCW, but now some 20 years later why does he get to show up and challenge for the title? There is no way in hell I am picking him and I hope he gets his ass kicked by Riddle backstage.

W: Drew McIntyre

Lonnie: Were they running out of challengers for Drew? Yes. Did they want star power for the rumble? Yes. Do I want to see Goldberg in matches? Hell No! After making Drew a star and letting him carry the championship most of the year it makes no sense to have Goldberg win. Goldberg was champ last year and then went to Mania and lost in 5 minutes. There is no reason to repeat that again. This should be quick and hopefully safe.

W: Drew McIntyre

John: I can't and won't bring myself to pick Goldberg. I can't justify it in any way. This is a chance to cement McIntyre as the guy. I'd love to think they won't do what they had to Goldberg do to The Fiend. They can't be that dumb to go down that road again right? Please WWE! For everyone's sake, do the right thing and "what's best for business". McIntyre should beat Goldberg in similar fashion to what he did to Lesnar at WrestleMania last year.

W: Drew McIntyre

30-Woman Royal Rumble

#1, #2, #30 entry to be announced on WWE Backstage

Participants include: Nia Jax, Charlotte Flair (WWE Women's Tag Team Champion), Bayley, Bianca Belair, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke, Peyton Royce, Alexa Bliss, Shayna Baszler, Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott, Tamina & 18 TBD

Jesse: This is the first year that it really isn’t obvious that we know who is going to win. Could Alexa use her weird fire throwing powers, or could Bayley add a rumble win to her list of accomplishments, or the worst possible outcome Charlotte could win her second. I am not picking any of those and am going to go with Bianca Belair because she needs a rocket strapped to her and she will put on a hell of a match with Sasha at WrestleMania.

W: Bianca Belair

Lonnie: When I try to think of who I want to win this that I would be really excited about the list is very short. A longer list is the people I absolutely do not want to win. We don’t need to see Charlotte, Nia, Tamina, or Natalya win at all. Until I see it happen, I cannot pick someone from NXT to win as I have no faith, they would pull the trigger like that. I think Bayley would be a good winner, but she just had the championship a long time. Ronda could always come back but I doubt it would happen until they have fans. That leaves me with two choices: Alexa Bliss or Bianca Belair. I like the idea of Alexa winning, but I honestly don’t think she needs it. She’s already a multiple time champion and is going to be involved in her battle with Randy for the next few months. That leaves my pick Bianca. She is clearly one of, if not the most talented woman on the roster. I feel the time is now to elevate new blood to the championship level and I think she will make a great champion come April.

W: Bianca Belair

John: I like that his is actually up in the air on who might win. When I look at the possibilities, I see Bayley, Bianca Belair, Charlotte, and Shayna of those who are already announced. It's possible we could see the return of Becky Lynch or even Ronda Rousey. Both of those options feel unlikely to me although it would make for a great moment. Of the previous four I mentioned, I absolutely don't want Charlotte. Didn't want her to win last year and it goes double or triple for this year. If Shayna was going to win, she would of done it last year. Bayley doesn't need it in my opinion and it's too soon to revisit Banks/Bayley. That would leave Belair. I think Belair could easily win and this could be her time to shine. However, I feel there is another lady who is ready to come to the main roster that we haven't seen for about a month. I think Rhea Ripley finally come to the main roster in a big way with a women's Rumble win. She goes to Mania to get the moment she deserved to get last year but didn't. Belair will have her time but I think Ripley gets what she should of gotten last year....a big WrestleMania moment and win!

W: Rhea Ripley

30-Man Royal Rumble

#1, #2, #30 entry to be announced on WWE Backstage

Participants include: Daniel Bryan, Bobby Lashley (WWE United States Champion), AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Otis, The Miz, Jey Uso, Cesaro, Jeff Hardy, Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, Shinsuke Nakamura, Big E (WWE Intercontinental Champion), John Morrison, Sheamus, Mustafa Ali, Edge, Dominik, Rey Mysterio, King Corbin & 10 TBD

Jesse: The men’s Rumble is just as random as the women’s match. After giving it much thought I have come down to 4 possible outcomes. First is Edge, but I don’t think he will win because he has a logical argument for a title shot since he never lost his title when he retired. Second is Seth ‘Freaking’ Rollins coming back and winning to go on to face Roman for the thousandth time. Third is Daniel Bryan, who has a good shot, but I think having him face Roman right after this KO feud is redundant. This now leads me to who I am picking to win…… John Cena. Why not? Having him come back for a while to feud with Roman would be hotter than GameStop stock right now. It’s a win-win for everyone involved, Cena gets to promote his new movie, Roman should finally have a good headlining Mania match, it will boost ratings and the fans will be happy for the most part. Now onto the season of pointing at the WrestleMania sign.

W: John Cena

Lonnie: This is easy… Jinder Mahal!!!! Oh fine! I’ll pick with my brain instead of my heart. Braun stood tall as we ended SmackDown, but he got his moment last year and I do not see it happening back-to-back years. I could see the possibility of Daniel Bryan getting the moment he should have gotten years ago. I see Edge as a threat, but it won’t happen. Randy and The Fiend will take each other out. I guess you could always have Brock return to get revenge. What I think would be amazing would be a returning Rock winning to challenge Roman to see who the head of the table truly is. But I also think there is no chance in hell The Rock would ever return when they have no fans. There is a man who I feel is on the rise and now is the time to strike with him. If he doesn’t win this year, I fear he will float around the mid card for years and maybe never reach the title picture. That man is Keith Lee. Since his Raw debut he has been hanging out near the title picture, and I feel this is the time he gets his big break.

W: Keith Lee

John: The obvious choice and betting favorite feels like Daniel Bryan. Is it really that simple? I don't like Bryan is win because I feel he doesn't need the win. If Bryan was going to win a rumble, it should of been 2014. Although I could see Bryan facing Reigns at WrestleMania, it would feel like a redo of the Owens feud too close together. I could see Rollins returning but a match with Reigns and/or McIntyre has been done already. The Fiend could return and win or Orton could win but I see them continuing their feud thus ruling both of them out. This is rare for me to say but I'd love a Brock Lesnar return as he has history with both men. I think it would be interesting and overdue for a face Lesnar to go against Reigns and Heyman. The problem is having no fans in attendance. That's why I'm hesitant to pick a Lesnar or someone like Cena as I feel they may not even be there. My pick to win the men's rumble is......Edge!! Part of me is surprised he didn't win last year after his monumental return. I know he doesn't need it and I wouldn't normally have picked him. His promo on Raw said he plans to go back to WrestleMania and win the championship he never lost. I think this is the first step in that process. He could go on to challenge either McIntyre or Reigns at this point. Maybe we'll get the spear vs. spear match after all. Just not the one we thought we were going to get.

W: Edge
