Our 3 Cents - NXT War Games 2021

Welcome to our second year of Our 3 Cents where myself, Jesse, and Lonnie give you our predictions on what's going to go down. This is the first official NXT pay-per-view since they switched to NXT 2.0 and they've dropped the "Takeover" name. We'll see if this show lives up to the expectations of what NXT Takeovers used to be. Without further to do......

John: 51-10 (84%)

Jesse: 45-16 (74%)

Lonnie: 45-16 (74%)

Let's take a look at the card:

Hair vs. Hair Match

Cameron Grimes vs. Duke Hudson

Jesse: Cameron Grimes back is probably hurting from carrying NXT this year. Every feud he has had is must see TV, and he oozes with charisma. Adding onto this match is how long it has been since there has been a hair vs. hair match. I fully expect this to be the match of the night with Grimes losing and getting a new hairdo.

W: Duke Hudson

Lonnie: First off, after Hudson folded in poker he flipped the cards over to learn that he was bluffed. Everyone knows you can’t look at folded cards!! Come on man!!! Haha. As far as the match, based on the formula WWE has run for years, the guy who gets some of his hair cut with scissors ends up winning the hair vs. hair match later. Grimes will keep his now short hair look as we see Hudson get all his hair cut here when Grimes wins.

W: Cameron Grimes

John: Hudson has gotten the better of Grimes in the build up to this match. Not to mention, if history has shown us anything, the babyface rarely loses in a hair vs. hair match (Edge beat Angle, Victoria beat Molly Holly, Battle of the Billionaires). For that reason, I have to go with Grimes getting the win. I have faith in Grimes to make this entertaining as he's always gold at everything he does.

W: Cameron Grimes

NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match

Roderick Strong (champ) vs. Joe Gacy

Jesse: Roddy Strong is in the same boat as O’Reilly, going from Undisputed Era to this. Granted I think Strong is one of the more underrated individuals on the roster, I feel like he is bigger than the Cruiserweight title…no pun intended. Strong wins this, but hopefully loses soon and moves up to the main event picture.

W: Roderick Strong

Lonnie: I have to say I am proud of WWE for actually keeping to the 205 limit for years. That being said Joe Gacy is getting a shot (and according to Google) while weighing 245. I understand his gimmick and I also think it makes sense for Strong to give him a shot just to shut him up. My issue is that if Gacy wins, you no longer need to be 205 or less and essentially the Cruiserweight Title just turns into the third tier title of NXT. With only one two hour show a week NXT does not need the equivalent of the old European championship. For that reason, we need a Strong win here.

W: Roderick Strong

John: This is the hardest match for me to pick. They made a weight exception for Gacy to get this title shot as he wants to make the title "all inclusive". That's interesting. I guess there are rumors of NXT doing away with this championship all together. If that's the case, I could see Gacy winning it. I don't think that's the right call though. Strong and Diamond Mine have been dominate on NXT and that should continue for a bit. Strong should retain but a Gacy win with possibly help from Harlan wouldn't shock me.

W: Roderick Strong

NXT Tag Team Championship Match

Imperium (champs) vs. Kyle O'Reilly & Von Wagner

Jesse: It has been kind of awkward with the tag team of Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner. KOR went from Undisputed Era to championship matches, now to this. I just can’t get behind them winning, especially with how dominant Imperium has been lately. This just doesn’t feel like NXT anymore, and this match amplifies that opinion.

W: Imperium

Lonnie: The easiest way to get a major push in WWE is to be a big man. And when that big man is not ready for the push, they just pair him with a smaller guy and push him anyways (see Styles/Omos). I absolutely do not think it is the right move, but I think KOR and Wagner will become champions here. This would allow Wagner to get more time to establish himself while KOR can continue to carry him. They could always swerve me and have Wagner turn on KOR after a loss but I think that is unlikely.

W: Kyle O'Reilly & Von Wagner

John: What are they doing with Kyle O'Reilly? Come one man! He's gone from the UE to championship match to a tag team with Von Wagner?! No disrespect to Wagner but O'Reilly shouldn't be in this match. I hate saying he's above it but that's how it feels to me. Imperium just won the gold a Halloween Havoc and I see no reason to take the titles off of them. I expect them to retain.

W: Imperium

Women's War Games Match

Raquel Gonzalez, Io Shirai, Cora Jade, & Kay Lee Ray vs. Toxic Attraction & Dakota Kai

Jesse: Sadly this is one of the least entertaining buildup to a war games match. I don’t really understand why Mandy came back down to NXT when there are plenty of women who could us the push. Saying that, I think Toxic Attraction/Dakota Kai wins, but I expect something crazy from Io during the match.

W: Toxic Attraction & Dakota Kai

Lonnie: On one side you have Raquel, Io, and Kay Lee who have been staples of NXT and NXT UK for the last several years vs. the current faction dominating NXT, Toxic Attraction. While Kai lost this past week on NXT to put them at a disadvantage, I don’t see Toxic Attraction losing here. I truly believe WWE wants to establish NXT 2.0. As I said for the men, if you want to be 2.0 you need the newcomers to cement themselves as the stars of the show by picking up major victories.

W: Toxic Attraction & Dakota Kai

John: Toxic Attraction has been on a roll lately and has been winning everything championships included. Dakota Kai was the natural choice to be their partner given her heel run and costing Raquel Gonzalez the title. Speaking of Gonzalez, her team is stacked in my opinion even with an inexperienced Cora Jade. I think the babyfaces get the win in this one and Mandy Rose's next challenger emerges (hoping it's KLR).

W: Raquel Gonzalez, Io Shirai, Cora Jade, & Kay Lee Ray

Men's War Games Match

Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, LA Knight, & Pete Dunne vs. Grayson Waller, Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker, & Tony D'Angelo

Jesse: This doesn’t feel like the normal war games because Regal didn’t do his patented announcement, but here we are. I actually like the build up to this match of old vs new. I am a little saddened if the rumors of Gargano’s contract expiring soon are true and this is his last match in NXT. He has been the star of NXT for the past few years, having amazing match after amazing match cumulating in the beautiful way he won the title at NXT New York. I see this being an entertaining match, but the new guys will prove a point and pull this one off.

W: Grayson Waller, Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker, & Tony D'Angelo

Lonnie: The team of Ciampa/Gargano/Dunne/Knight is very impressive but they have one issue. They don’t have Bron Breakker. Bron is quite obviously the next big star of NXT and WWE in general. I know Vince loves messing things up, but Bron is a future star. Let him be NXT champ in the near future and if you're smart let him beat Lesnar or Roman for the belt at WrestleMania 2023 and you have the future face of the company. In addition to Bron, Carmelo has also been impressive as of late and a win here would keep him on a role. Finally, this sadly may be the end of Johnny Wrestling in NXT. I have nothing else to say but thank you Johnny. He has been consistently amazing for literally years and I hope everyone appreciates how good he is. The new guys establish themselves as the people to beat on NXT 2.0.

W: Grayson Waller, Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker, & Tony D'Angelo

John: If there's one thing about NXT 2.0 you can't deny, it's that they are all in on trying to create new stars. This whole card and especially this match proves that. Breakker and Hayes are clearly set to be big stars in NXT going forward so I expect them to get the shine for the new guys. Rumor is going around that Gargano could be done after this. If that's the case, it's a big loss for NXT and he will definitely be missed. Hopefully he gets a proper send off but I think the new generation will pick up the win here. They need it more going forward since they're the future of the brand.

W: Grayson Waller, Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker, & Tony D'Angelo
