Our 3 Cents - NXT Takeover XXX 2020

Welcome back to another edition of Our 3 Cents where myself, Jesse, and Lonnie give you our predictions on what's going to go down. It's hard to believe that this is the 30th Takeover!! I wouldn't say this is the best Takeover card but I think it will be solid. I just thought they would go for a bigger show since this is the 30th. However, Takeovers rarely disappoint so I'm still stoked for this. Without further to do, here's our current standings:

John: 18-6-1 (72%)

Jesse: 15-9-1 (60%)

Lonnie: 15-9-1 (60%)

Let's take a look at the card:

Kickoff Show Match

Triple Threat Tag Team #1 Contenders Match

Legado del Fantasma vs. Breezango vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch

Jesse: This is a tough one choosing between the 2 teams I think will win. Since Imperium are champs, they aren’t going to face Legado del Fantasma because what good is 2 heel teams going against each other? Which leaves the most beautiful team in NXT, Oney and Burch, vs those other guys Breezango. If Breezango were to lose, where does that leave them? Where do they go from here? That is why I am picking them to win and go on to face Imperium.

W: Breezango

Lonnie: There has not been much build to this match, which makes it a total guess what will happen. Escobar has had a few wins over Breezango the last few weeks and maybe they will have Legado del Fantasma win to keep their momentum from the last few weeks. Regardless, I don’t see any of these teams beating Imperium.

W: Legado del Fantasma

John: As far as kickoff show matches go, this has potential to be good as all of these teams can go and at least they are fighting for something. Breezango recently had a shot at the tag titles and didn't win so I think it's safe to go ahead and rule them out. I like Legado del Fantasma and they're being showcased each week along with Santos Escobar. However, since they are heels and so are the current tag team champs, Imperium, I can't see Legado del Fantasma winning here. I like Lorcan/Burch to pick up the win here in a good match but I don't think they will beat Imperium whenever that match happens.

W: Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch

Finn Balor vs. Timothy Thatcher

Jesse: Once again here is Finn passing time until WALTER comes back, Finn wins easily. Maybe next Takeover we get the Demon.

W: Finn Balor

Lonnie: Can’t have NXT without a Finn Balor match. I expect a hard-hitting match that will make Thatcher look good, but let’s not be mistaken – Balor is winning. Balor is a staple of NXT and they are going to keep him strong at all times. Balor would be a good choice if they need someone to step up and fight Lee or Kross in the near future.

W: Finn Balor

John: I was really hoping Balor would get into the ladder match but thanks to Thatcher, here we are. This should be a good hard hitting match as Balor always brings it at Takeover and Thatcher is just an ass kicking brute. Balor's recent aggressive side should make this awesome. I still feel like Balor is in a holding pattern though just waiting for something bigger. Since it's Takeover, I'm picking Balor to add to his record number of Takeover wins and stay strong as he potentially challenges for a championship in the near future.

W: Finn Balor

Ladder Match for the NXT North American Championship

Bronson Reed vs. Damian Priest vs. Cameron Grimes vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Velveteen Dream

Jesse: How in the hell do we pick this match? I think the plan was for Lumis to win until he got hurt, but now it’s a crap shoot. My heart says Gargano will win until Lumis gets healthy, but my head says it will be one of the new guys in NXT. I’m going to follow my head on this one and go with the guy with the size, Damian Priest.

W: Damian Priest

Lonnie: Two of these guys shouldn’t win. Gargano doesn’t need the title at this point, and Dream shouldn’t be near a title due to his personal issues and WWE risking bad media attention involving a champion. With that said I feel NXT has really been building up Bronson Reed. After winning his qualifying match he has beaten Shane Thorne and Damian Priest back to back weeks and then was the one standing tall this past week on NXT. Maybe I’m a fool and falling for him having the “momentum” but I feel like he would be a fresh face in the title picture.

W: Bronson Reed

John: I really like this match as I feel it could go a few different ways. The two people I'm ruling out right away are Gargano and Dream. I hate to say Gargano is above this title now but I feel like he just doesn't need it. As far as Dream goes, he's the worst choice to win in my opinion with all of his extracirricular activities going on at the moment and that's putting it nicely. I could see Reed, Priest, or Grimes winning and none of which would surprise me. Reed has been built up nicely over the past month or so with some key wins to make him look like a legit threat. Grimes seems to be close to ready but I feel like he loses his more important matches more often than he wins them. Then there's my pick, Damian Priest. I think it's Priest time to hold some gold. He impressed me when he went after the title against Keith Lee earlier this year but I feel his real coming out party was against Finn Balor at Takeover: In Your House. I think Priest takes the gold here and we'll see if he can make the most of it.

W: Damian Priest

NXT Women's Championship Match

Dakota Kai vs. Io Shirai (champ)

Jesse: As much as I enjoy Dakota Kai, I think it is a little too early to end the reign of Io. That is especially after they took the title off Rhea too soon and handicapped her momentum. It should be a great match, but Io retains.

W: Io Shirai

Lonnie: First, I think Io is going to retain her championship here. I feel that it is just too early in her reign for a title change. Also, when thinking about Kai – she only has the title shot because Mercedes Martinez interfered in the match with Ripley and only got the upper hand last week due to Raquel Gonzalez helping her out. I don't think Kai has a realistic shot at all unless there is once again interference to help her out.

W: Io Shirai

John: When I look at the card, this is the easiest pick for me. In my opinion, it's just not even close to time for Io to lose the title. Io still has plenty to offer as champ and I think she'll have a good match with Dakota. I'm sure Raquel Gonzalez will get involved on Dakota's behalf but I don't think it will matter. Io will pick up the win and hopefully we get her against Rhea Ripley one-on-one once Ripley is done with the Robert Stone Brand.

W: Io Shirai

Adam Cole vs. Pat McAfee

Jesse: The build up to this match has been amazing. The double turn when Pat punted Cole’s face off the announcers table was probably the moment of the year for NXT. As a lifelong fan of wrestling, I am envious of Pat and how he turned his fandom into actually making his way to WWE and having a match with one of the best in the business. I mean he has his own ring at his house, so this match might be surprisingly good and entertaining. In the end Cole wins and maybe the Undisputed Era gets the main roster call up they desperately need.

W: Adam Cole

Lonnie: I must say I really like this feud for Cole. Having a “celebrity” feud is a nice easy way to get him away from the title picture that he dominated the last year. Having a shoot style interview to start this rivalry was a nice touch. Also, McAfee’s punt on Cole and the world class selling job by Cole was great. With all of that being said, Cole needs to win here. Going from being champion to losing to a non-wrestler so quick would be a mighty fall for the former champ. With that in mind, I do feel McAfee is athletic enough and some football player / Undisputed Era interference can make this match come off well.

W: Adam Cole

John: Jesse and I had talked about this being a possible match after their "shoot" angle on McAfee's show. A few weeks later and here we are. McAfee is an athletic guy and I have full faith in Cole to carry him to something that's watchable. I could see their being some interference by football players and the other members of the UE. The winner depends on what the long term story is going to be. If this is one and done, Cole should win for sure. If this is going to continue. McAfee will get the win via nefarious means. Just please don't have the UE turn on Cole. I'm going to go with Cole hopefully dishing out an ass whooping to McAfee.

W: Adam Cole

NXT Championship Championship Match

Karrion Kross w/ Scarlett vs. Keith Lee (champ)

Jesse: Man oh man who do you pick here? Keith Lee seems unstoppable while Kross seems too strong to lose. NXT backed themselves into a corner when they booked this match. Do you make Lee look weak by losing this early into his reign or do you make Kross lose and give up all the heel heat he has built up? Funny side story, wrestling doesn’t make its way up to Alaska very often, but in 2018 there was an independent show that came up and Scarlett sang the national anthem. It was a beautiful rendition, and from that moment I told myself I was a fan of hers no matter what. That is why I am taking the surprise here and picking Kross to win and Lee to move up and make his debut on Raw this coming Monday.

W: Karrion Kross

Lonnie: I’m torn on this one. Kross has been absolutely dominant since his debut, and Lee has been absolutely dominant for a while now. I will say that I haven’t been the biggest fan of the build to this match. Pairing these two should feel like a really big deal. However, Kross appeared on the tron a few weeks, and we got a video package on the go home show. Having only one face to face encounter (the “Fire ball” contract signing) is odd when building to a championship match.  I will say, I don’t think this match can have a clean finish and I hope it is much longer than all of Kross’ previous matches. I think Lee will retain his belt here, as if Kross disposes of Lee quickly, who could realistically challenge him next?

W: Keith Lee

John: This is tough. Kross has been dominant since his arrival and has whooped everyone he has fought in around five minutes or less. I feel like WWE booked themselves into a bad spot. I don't like Kross losing yet but if Lee loses, he'll look like an idiot for vacating the NXT North American title and then losing the NXT title in his next big defense. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we don't get a clean finish. I fully expect the feud to continue after this match regardless of the result. I'm going with Lee as I feel Kross wouldn't be effected too much by the loss as long as the follow up is done correctly. Lee has more to lose here in my opinion. The limitless one retains and we can continue to bask in his glory!

W: Keith Lee
