We're in the Capitol Wrestling Center and kicking off tonight's show with the NXT roster on the ramp to pay respects to Pat Patterson! RIP sir! Without Pat, who was the first ever Intercontinental Champion, we wouldn't have the Royal Rumble. A video package of Patterson highlights is played to Frank Sinatra's "My Way". Our condolences to the Patterson family. RIP Pat Patterson 1941-2020.

Now onto some action.

Damian Priest & Leon Ruff (NXT North American Champion) vs. Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar (NXT Cruiserweight Champion) & Raul Mendoza)

The match was made because of altercation between Legado del Fantasma and Damian Priest earlier today. Priest wanted to replace Curt Stallion so he can make sure Ruff makes it to Takeover. Johnny Gargano is on commentary. Ruff and Escobar are starting the match. They lock up Escobar schools him in the early going. Mendoza tags in an briefly has control. Ruff hits a nice springboard but his momentum is short lived. Escobar tags back in and remains in control. Quick tags by Legado del Fantasma. Priest tags in. Mendoza picks up the pace but Priest catches him with a back elbow. They go to the outside where Priest drops Mendoza on the apron. Priest sends Mendoza into the barricade before breaking the count. Priest takes his eye off the ball and Mendoza tags Escobar. ESCOBAR HITS PRIEST WITH A SUICIDE DIVE TO THE OUTSIDE AS WE GO TO A SPLIT SCREEN COMMERCIAL.

During the break, Legado del Fantasma isolates Priest. Mendoza hits a springboard moonsault for a near fall on Priest. Escobar works on a leg of Priest and keeps Priest grounded.

Back from the break, Mendoza knocks Ruff off the apron as Legado del Fantasma continues to wear down Priest. Escobar hits a nice vertical suplex on Priest for a near fall. Escobar goes back to the leg of Priest. Ruff is still down on the apron but slowly moving. Mendoza tags back in to take over on the leg work. Priest fights to his feet and catches a charging Mendoza and hits him with an elevated flatliner. Priest finally tags Ruff and Escobar tags in. Ruff quickens the pace and hits a rana for a near fall. Mendoza makes a blind tag. Ruff drops an elbow on Escobar but then gets attacked by Mendoza. Ruff tags Priest back in who goes crazy on Legado del Fantasma. Priest is standing tall now. Priest hits Mendoza in the corner with a back elbow before hitting Escobar off the apron. Mendoza tries a move off the top but Priest decks him in mid air. PRIEST GOES FOR A RECKONING ON MENDOZA AND RUFF TAGS HIMSELF IN!! PRIEST HITS THE RECKONING ON MENDOZA AND RUFF HITS A FROG SPLASH FOR THE WIN! The right team as we go into NXT Takeover War Games. Gargano watches from commentary and two people with Ghostface masks stand behind Gargano.

We see highlights of last week's ladder match between Kyle O'Reilly and Pete Dunne. Up next is a special look at the Undisputed Era.

A vignette of Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, and Rhea Ripley is shown and they're getting ready for War Games. Ripley and Moon show Blackheart something we can't see and Shotzi loves it!

A video package airs of the Undisputed Era returning to fight Pat McAfee's Kings of NXT. We see the UE reflecting on the past few weeks. Cole says it hasn't been the best for them. Cole says they've been running things for the past 3 years since they arrived. They're shown wearing suits at dinner and Cole doesn't know if they've ever been tested like this. They says it's time to whoop someone's ass. We see all the UE's history in War Games. Cole says McAfee needs credit for being incredibly smart and stupid.

Cameron Grimes is making his way through the halls. He's in action next!

McKenzie Mitchell is backstage with Team Candice. They say Team Shotzi is barely a team and Raquel Gonzalez promises to make Shotzi Blackheart feel like she got run over by a tank.

August Grey vs. Cameron Grimes

Grimes brought a strap to the ring with it. Grimes goes on the attack immediately! All Grimes in the early going as he throws Grey all over the ring and delivers a knee to the midsection. Grey tries to find back and hits a drop kick. Jaw breaker by Grey followed by a neck breaker. Grey goes to the top and comes off the top with a cross body for a near fall. Grey gets another near fall from a roll up. GRIMES TURNS THE TIDE AND PLANTS GREY!! CAVE IN BY GRIMES AND IT'S OVER!! Squash as it should of been.

Post match, Grimes gets on the mic and says Dexter Lumis made a mistake wanting to be strapped to Grimes. Grimes puts Grey in the strap and then whips him with it! Grey falls out of the ring and Grimes talks trash. Grimes pulls the strap and LUMIS IS AT THE OTHER END!! LUMIS WHIPS CRIMES WITH THE STRAP UNTIL GRIMES BAILS!

Tony Nese vs. Jake Atlas

Atlas dedicates this to Pat Patterson (meaning he isn't losing). They lock up and Nese talks trash. Clean break. More trash talk by Nese and Atlas takes him down. Nese escapes but Atlas gains control again. A kick from Atlas sends Nese to the outside. Atlas follows to the outside. Back in the ring, Atlas goes to the top but Nese knocks him off. (Side note: Pat McAfee's crew arrives in a yellow Hummer) Nese takes control of the match and hits a snap suplex. Knee strikes by Nese. Nese gets Atlas in a Torture Rack but Nese fights out of it. Both men trade strikes. Atlas levels Nese with a big clothesline. Strikes by Atlas followed by a German. Near fall for Atlas. Nese fires back and hangs Atlas up on the top rope. They trade counters and Nese hits a nice spin kick. Near fall for Nese. Nese tries a running knee but Atlas moves. Atlas plants Nese and THEN HITS THE CARTWHEEL DDT FROM THE TOP TO WIN. We knew the winner when Atlas dedicated the match to Patterson.

Post match, McKenzie is ringside for an interview. Atlas says this is just the beginning and he wants to work his way back to Santos Escobar and the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.

Pat McAfee and crew are making their way to the ring. They'll talk next! We go to a commercial.

Back from the break, Pat McAfee and his crew make their way to the ring. McAfee grabs a mic and tells everyone to shut up because they suck. McAfee says RIP Pat Patterson and he appreciates what Pat has done for the business. Pat says the wrestling fans and the UE are on the opposite end of the respect spectrum. He talks about their video promo earlier. McAfee says it was the lamest night on the town he's ever seen. McAfee talks about his team. He invested more money in this team than we will ever see. McAfee says on this Sunday, it's about his team finally getting the opportunity to seize the main event. McAfee hypes up Pete Dunne's win last week. McAfee tells the fans he wants to picture us and members of the UE this Sunday. He wants us to feel every part of it. When we tune into War Games, we want to see Pat McAfee get torn apart but it won't happen because of the three men McAfee has at his side. McAfee and Dunne claims they will end the UE at War Games. McAfee says it's not undisputed, it's a promise. "We're the greatest and you all suck."

A video package shows highlights of the Grizzled Young Veterans. They're in action next!

A video airs of Xia Li and Boa constantly dunking themselves in water in front someone while the old man watches. They get out of the water and bow to someone before getting hit in the back with kendo sticks.

Ever-Rise vs. Grizzled Young Veterans

MPERIUM ATTACKS EVER-RISE before the match begins!! Imperium is on the mic and say the tag division belongs to them. This leads to......

Imperium vs. Grizzled Young Veterans

Aichner and Gibson start the match. Imperium get the early advantage. Barthel tags in the Imperium double teams Gibson. The GYV turn the tide and Drake tags in. Drake and Barthel trade strikes. It's hard hitting. Sunset flip by Drake gets a near fall. Hard right by Barthel. Aichner tags back in as they isolate Drake. A suplex combo by Imperium plants Drake. Aichner stomps Drake in the corner. Drake avoids a suplex and Gibson makes a blind tag. Gibson takes out Aichner and cheap shots Barthel. Aichner knocks Drake off the apron. Aichner catches Gibson and slams him. Good counter wrestling by both men. Gibson botches a hip toss before hip tossing Aichner and both men fall out of the ring. Both tag teams argue on the outside as we go to a commerical.

We're back and the GYV are isolating Aichner. A spinning heel kick gets a near fall for Gibson. Drake tags back in and gets a near fall after hitting a forearm to Aichner. More forearms by Drake. Aichner turns things around with a front face suplex on Drake hanging him on the top rope. Barthel tags in and nice double team by Imperium. Near fall for Imperium. Barthel beats on Gibson in the corner. Enziguri by Barthel. Double underhook suplex by Barthel on Gibson. Both men deliver strikes to each other's throat. Aichner tags back in. Big spine buster by Aichner and a suplex by Barthel gets a near fall. Aichner plants Gibson but Gibson gets his knees up when Aichner tries a moonsault. Drake tags back in and hits a step up enziguri. Drake puts Aichner on the top turnbuckle. Aichner counters and Barthel pushes Drake INTO A CRAZY STANDING VERTICAL SUPLEX BY AICHNER ON DRAKE! Things start breaking down. GYV get the upper hand until AICHNER DIVES TO THE OUTSIDE TO TAKE OUT EVERYONE!! EVER-RISE IS BACK AND ATTACKS IMPERIUM FOR A DQ BEFORE ATTACKING THE GYV!! Ever-Rise stands at the top of the ramp as Imperium and GYV stare them down. This was a good, fast pace, hard hitting match but I didn't care of the ending as I don't believe Ever-Rise is near as good as the other teams.

Timothy Thatcher is backstage getting ready. He's next!

McKenzie Mitchell tries to get a word with Ever-Rise as they're leaving the building. They drive off and say "Ever-Rise Rules".

Timothy Thatcher is in the ring for this week's live "Thatch-As-Thatch-Can". Tonight's lesson is about distractions because lots of superstars in NXT lose by distraction. Thatcher goes to introduce his student and he turns. IT'S TOMMASO CIAMPA! Ciampa says he's here to teach, not to learn. Ciampa tells everyone Thatcher is a disappointment. THATCHER AND CIAMPA START BRAWLING!! Ciampa says "Lesson One: Don't be an ass!" Thatcher's actual student attacks Ciampa allowing Thatcher to get the advantage. They brawl outside the ring. Back in the ring, THATCHER PUTS CIAMPA TO SLEEP!!! Thatcher smiles as he leaves the ring.

Commentary hypes Takeover War Games. Wade Barrett is hosting the kickoff show. They run down the card.

Shotzi Blackheart and Raquel Gonzalez are backstage getting ready. The main event is next!

McKenzie Mitchell is backstage with Timothy Thatcher. Thatcher is impressed by his student and says he learned something. Thatcher says Ciampa also learned something about distractions. Thatcher says he'll teach Ciampa another lesson at Takeover War Games.

Ladder Match for the advantage at War Games

Raquel Gonzalez vs. Shotzi Blackheart

Both ladies respective teammates are watching in the crowd. Shotzi hits Raquel with a drop kick right away and tries to take her down. Raquel tosses Shotzi to the corner. Shotzi tries to turn it around but Raquel over powers her. Raquel catches Shotzi and throws her to the apron . Shotzi gets knocked off the apron and Raquel goes out to get a ladder. Shotzi stops her for a moment. Raquel picks up Shotzi but Shotzi sends Raquel into the ladder! From in the ring, Shotzi drop kicks the ladder into Raquel on the outside. Shotzi puts a ladder in the ring. Shotzi tries a cross body to Raquel on the outside but Raquel catches her and drops Shotzi on the ladder. Shotzi stops Raquel from setting up a ladder and they battle on the outside. Shotzi tries a sleeper but Raquel sends her spine first into the ring post. Raquel picks up Shotzi and sends her into the barricade. Raquel misses a kick and Shotzi sends her into the steps twice. Raquel tries to sends Shotzi into the barricade but Shotzi climbs it and jumps off onto Raquel! Raquel kicks Shotzi into the steps twice. A third time as we go to a split screen commercial!

During the break, Raquel beats on Shotzi on the outside and puts a ladder in the ring. Shotzi fights back but Raquel rakes her eyes. Raquel gets a smaller ladder from under the ring and puts it in the ring as well. Both ladies get in the ring and Raquel hits Shotzi repeatedly with the smaller ladder. Shotzi fights off Raquel.

Back from the break, both ladies fight over a ladder. They battle to the apron. SHOTZI HITS A TORNADO DDT ON THE APRON! Shotzi tries to run up the apron for slice of bread but Raquel sends Shotzi face first into the apron. Raquel hits Shotzi in the face with the steps! Raquel gets back in the ring and sets up a ladder. She starts climbing but Shotzi is back to stop her. Both ladies climb to the top. The briefcase swings as both ladies fall off the ladder. Shotzi appears to have hurt her ankle in the fall. Shotzi tries climbing again but Raquel stops her. They take turns climbing but the other keeps stopping them. Shotzi picks up the small ladder but Raquel kicks it into her. Shotzi uses her speed to avoid Raquel and HITS A SWEET SENTON SENDING RAQUEL FACE FIRST INTO A LADDER!! SHOTZI GOES TO THE TOP AND HITS A SEATED SENTON ON RAQUEL WHO WAS OUT ON THE FLOOR!! INDI HARTWELL HELPS TEAM CANDICE TO COME RINGSIDE!! RIPLEY AND MOON COME RINGSIDE AS WELL! INDI HARTWELL SETS UP A LADDER. Shotzi stops Indi but Raquel takes out Shotzi. Both teams fight outside. IO SHIRAI STOPS RAQUEL FROM CLIMBING!! Io sends Raquel to the outside. IO TAKES OUT EVERYONE OUTSIDE WITH A MOONSAULT!!! SHOTZI CLIMBS THE LADDER AND GETS THE BRIEFCASE!! It started slow but picked up down the stretch.
